The Truth About Corpsewood Manor

Okay, first off my name is Matt. I am doing this blog to clear up all of the issues about Corpsewood Manor. Everything That I post on this Blog comes from the actual News Paper, the Book, interviews, and from my own findings. I will quote everyone who isn't me, so that way you know who said what. I promise not to include actual Names unless they ask me to. I promise that my findings and research are up to date. And I promise not to include the Families.

With that said, I am going to start from where I first came up with my idea to do this Blog.
I was looking for information on the Corpsewood Murder that Happen in Chattooga County
in the early 1980's. I have been to the Manor on different occasions. I first heard the stories from my
family whom use to go up there and knew the two men really well. My family has lived in Halls Valley
way before I was Born. I did a book report on the Manor back when I was in middle school, and ever since then the place has been on my mind. I did research on the place when I did my book report.

I have done the research again but this time more in depth. I want to get all of the facts that I can get, so that way I can prove or disprove some of the stories that are going around. My first stop was to the Summerville Newspaper office, where I looked through the actual newspaper that had the story in it. I found the actual newspaper from "Dec 12,1982 and it was published on Dec. 23,1982(the following Thursday of the Murder)". It was Edited by "James Budd(whom was the News Editor at that time)".

The Newspaper's Headline read "Devil-Worshiper's Slayings Shock County", "Suspects Now Linked To Mississippi Murder".
What caught me off guard was an article written by a "Pam Purcell(whom was the staff writer at the time)". The Heading read "Christian Cross Appears at Scene of Slaughter". From her report she states " Members of the Chattooga County Civil Defense Rescue Squad have been guarding the estate of the Charles L. Scudder and Joey Odum, whose bulletriddled bodies were found inside their home Thursday(Dec.12,1982)".
"On Monday seven men from various churches in the county were allowed to visit the estate adn tour the house. The bodies of Scudder and Odum were cremated Monday near Lafayette, according to Furnel Director Durwood Petitt, the ashes of the twomen are scheduled to be strewn over their estate sometime after the first of the Year, when their families can be present."

"Larry Lu Allen, Assistant Cheif of the Rescue Squad, told the News Tuesday that he stayed at the road going to the estate Thursday Night after the two men were found killed, as well as other times since". He was there to make sure no one came up to the estate to bother anything.

"Lu Allen said, so far the only incident they have had at the estate was when someone put a small cross in the yard. Lu Allen said the person who did it had to walk through the woods as they had both roads closed off and did not see anyone with a cross".
"Lu Allen added that some people had come by the road blocks that said they knew the two dead men. He said the people mostly thought they were real nice and did not bother anyone".

While I was doing my research I looked at other websites through "Google", and came across this one site, I want add that sites name to my blog because I do not know if they would like that, But in one part of the article it said a guy by the name "
Anton Szandor LaVey" visted the house.
I have never read anywhere in all of my research about this man ever being there but I can't disprove that he was. But when I researched the Name, I found out that Mr. La Vey was the founder of the Church of Stan. But from people I have talked to they say " that the two men living in the Manor were not Devil- Worshipers, as everyone has made them out to be. They were in fact very smart people, who did have very different things in their home. They welcomed all that came to their " Castle", as some call it and were the nicest men in the area. They never tried to hurt anyone and they kept to themselves. The reason the Murder occurd was because the two men(the murders) thought there was money inside the Manor. When in fact there was no money, it was in a bank account. I also read that in one article that one of the murders stated " there was LSD in his wine", that isn't true either. The two men that mureder Dr. Scudder and Joey Odum never found the LSD that was in the left side of the desk that one of the murders went through. All he found was Dr. Scudder's pistol that the murder used on him to finish off the dying man. The murder's only made out with a few pieces of vaulable items and Dr. Scudder's Black Jeep.

I am still doing more research everyday until I get every bit of information that is the truth about the two men that lived "Like Kings in their Castle". If you would Like to talk or share your information you can email me at Cowboy21_357@yahoo.com, Please only real information not some made up tail hat you came up with just to be on this site. I will be posting more information as I get it and I will also have pics and video from where I did my research. Your Name will not be posted unless you ask for it to be. But I will only use your First Names. The reason that the ones are listed in here is because they came from the actual newspaper, which I will add photos of at a later date.

    2. The correct word is convicted not accused. Didn't they admit to it?

      Delete
  3. The real story is known. It was nothing more than a robbery that escalated into homicide. Tony and Avery owned up to it when they initially surrendered, and they didn't change their stories until they were appointed defense attorneys. I feel badly for you, the family members. I know you are all decent people. I especially felt bad for Betty Jo L. and Nelda W. But Kirby Phelps' mother had a broken heart, too. The stress from what Tony and Avery did killed her before her time. We all have people in our families who took a wrong turn somewhere.

  4. Thank You all for the comments on my page, I did all of my research from the local newspaper of that year. That is where most of the information you see before you came from. If you have anything you would like to add please feel free to do so at anytime. Again Thank You all.

  5. Anton Levay would be an interesting person to have visited. But you should look more into Charles Scuttle, I confirmed he worked at Layola Univesity and was apart of a team that recieved a grant of $600,000 in 1970. Supposedly this supports the theory that he was involved in MK-ULTRA.

There are other things too. Supposedly he met one of the disciples of Aleister Crowley and once studied from the Demonomicon...

That would be 1000x more relevant than a visit by LeVay...

  6. Emperor,

Why do you call Charles Scudder "Scuttle?" And why do you spell Loyola "Layola?"

And most importantly...how does a grant to Loyola University support the theory that Dr. Scudder was involved in the MK-ULTRA project? Loyola University routinely receives large grants (both then and now) for a wide range of projects that are not related to covert CIA operations. They even train dentists there. :)

  7. In all fairness to dr. scudder and mr. oldam, they were'nt "satanists" so much as they were highly involved with pagan and occult practices. The idea of them being "devil worshippers" is perpetuated by the close minded town folk of a highly conservative, bible thumping, country town set in their beliefs. Any ritualistic symbols of their particular religion were easily mistaken for "devil dealings" and they wound up being wrongfully portrayed b/c of the social stigma that goes along with having a religion that differs from the surrounding population.

  16. Okay first off, there is no paper stating that they found two bodies where the Manor was built. And even if they was what does that have to do with what I have written? Also for all of the ones that want to keep writting nonesense on my page, keep it up it builds my fan base. So thank you to all you haters that don't have anything better to do then try to trash me and my work. If yall would open a book or an old newspaper and read it; then you would see that what I wrote comes from that. None of this was taken out of context like yall try to make it out to be.

  17. The only reason people call them devil warshippers is because of the fact they had uncommon things in their home. That does not mean that they warship the devil, just shows you how simple minded people can be. Cause if your different or live different then you get named for it. You show me where it states that they did any type of devil warship. You can't because no one ever saw them doing such a thing. Also you keep asking what does that make me since I call them good people? I hate to break it to you but, I know for a fact that they never hurt or bother anyone in this town. The only reason people call them names is because of the stories they heard growing up, they never got to know them nor do they want to know their story. So unless you have hard truth to back up what your saying then stop sending me the fake crap that you come up with. My information came from different books and the newspaper of that year. You don't like what I wrote, then stay off my page, or do your own research and prove me wrong on what I have written.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Okay you want facts? Then do me a favor and prove where it is written that they warshiped the devil. You prove me wrong that it is written that they really did warship the devil and I will write that I am sorry for missing that. But until you can prove that, then I will keep stating that they were not. And also I checked with the person who cut the drive way for the two men and no report has ever been made of two bodies being found up there expect for the two that lived in the Manor. So if you would show me or tell me where you got this information from I will gladly go back and check again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Also, I will add this much. If you give me information on the issue above, then I will go back and check all papers, books, and anything else I can find to see if it is true. This way I don't step on any toes or keep getting rude emails; which I do find funny but still I do want to see if maybe I missed something. And yes you may be right I want know the whole truth. What I wrote was from the newspapers and the book. But some of it may not be the whole truth cause newspapers lie all the time. But I told everyone from the start were it came from. So if you have an issue with it, then maybe you should take it up with the newspaper office or the libraries in town, since that is where I got the information.

  25. As a paranormal investigator,I know people judge you for what they perceive to be "satanic". I've been called that myself...and in actuality, I am a devout Christian. I understand some people, especially in the Bible belt, think anything other than what they believe is wrong. I admire your efforts in trying to get to the bottom of this controversial case and post it to the best of your abilities. On the other hand I also know that people that are into satanic worship are very secretive. They do not expose who they are or what they do. They keep their groups small and very, very private. That being stated...there is a good possibility these men did dabble in the black arts and if they did share their rituals, the ones involved would not come forward, because of the obvious risks they would be taking. I see points on both sides. Keep on digging and let us, your viewers, know your findings, but, I personally do not believe the truth will EVER be exposed.

  37. Uh...this is some hilarious stuff, lol. First off, Satanists and devil worshipers are two completely different animals. Satanists don't actually worship Satan, they just use him as sort of a mascot, in a lame attempt to scare/intimidate people. They are usually people who are outsiders, just looking to belong. In my opinion, I would categorize them as a cult, same as any religion. And as far as I can tell, devil worshipers are most often nothing more than just idiot teenagers trying to re bail from their parents religions. Either way, they are both delusions, fostered by feeble minds, in a misguided attempt to escape reality...again, as are all religions. I live about thirty miles from Corpsewood and I go there often. It is a shame it has been left to ruin, nothing more than a pile of bricks, with only a few remaining structures. Graffiti and empty beer cans are about the only thing to really see. And I noticed no evil presence, ever...lol. Fucktards.

  38. Curious about the murders, today I read in the Rome paper that a body was found in the river in Lyrely, they don't know who, but I added it to my mental list of weird deaths in Summerville and it got me to thinking about the 2 guys at Corpsewood, my ex and my brother were in jail in Summerville once, for stealing pot, believe it or not, it is true, and while they were in jail some stories were told to them about these murders. They were told that the men were trying to wise up the kids in town to how crooked the cops are there, and that the murderers were acually set up to do the murders by some cops. Don't know the validity of that, but, several inmates were telling them this.

Well there "Edumacated Anonymous" actually what the fuck do you know about it? Maybe it's those feeble minds that you should watch out for. If you knew the first thing about what Charles Scudder believed in you'd absolutly suprise the hell out of me. If you understood what a Satanist thinks, as for that what anyone thinks, this would also suprise us all. I'm sure you can read since you're most likely over the age of 20, that should be enough time for you to get through Dick and Jane Volume 1.... You should try actually going to a library or looking on the internet, where you'll find lots of information on religions and such topics. You could spend usefull time edumacating yourself some and you might find out there is more to life than a
budwiser reality check might get you.

It's if you knew what reality is??? You wouldn't know it if it came up and bit you on the ass.

It is so beautiful and peaceful down there. I mainly wanted to prove many people wrong. I've always heard that if you took a brick away from the site that you'll never make it home alive. Well guess what? I have a brick from Corpsewood in my own back yard. All of this about ghosts and demons is so ridiculous. I even have a friend that visited the site recently and they took their bible with them to be protected from the demons. It's a bunch of nonsense. The two men lived their lives the way they chose to. I cannot judge them for who they were and what they did. What is the big deal???? We've got more important things out there in this world that need more attention than something that happened over twenty eight years ago.

Thank you all so much again and to the family I am still very sorry for your loss and I will not be bothering you for any type of information. But I do have one question that came up to me the other day from an ex girl friend who stated she was kin to one of the ones who did this crime. 65. I agree with you there. Okay in light of new findings while doing more searching. I found out that Scudder was apart of the "Church of Satan. So sorry for saying that he wasn't. Also; for the one that asked me why they moved up into the wooded area, it's simple to tell you that part; they wanted to get away from the city life and be left alone. Charles what sick of all the noise and the life style. He and Odem wanted to be left alone and to start over. If you have a chance to read the book which I have a copy of right now, it explains in more detail about that. I have looked up the two men who did this unthinkable crime and sorry to say but I could only find one of them(so far) and he was last known to be in Mississippi but it doesn't say if he was moved from there or not. The other man I can't find on file but I will do my best to keep looking and get back to you all with the details. I have also had two different groups of researchers who have done some investigations up there with recorders and k2 meters and they both have came back with some chilling sounds and voices. After the first of this coming year I will be going up there to do my own evp work and to take some more photos and I will try and post them on here as soon as I can. I want to think you all once again for all of your information and like I said before I try and follow up on all leads if I think they are worth looking at. So again thank you.

  66. This just came up. The Sheriff back then was an idiot he had(at that time) thought about prosecuting the two(charles and odom) for being different. But and I quote " We looked inot prosecuting them, but there was nothing we could do- that's freedom of religion" said Sheriff(left blank on purpose). Also the Sheriff back then broke laws that he knew he shouldn't have. First he openly told a reported what was in the upstairs of the manor; when the reporter asked. Second he told the press everything that was going on in the case and didn't seem to care about the fact that he was getting a media frenzy going. " The media's main connection of information was Chattooga County Sheriff( name left blank by me)who at the time was at age 38; was from the modern school of law enforcement and knew full well how to use the media to his benefit" ( From the Book, pg 29) I just took this quote from the book and yes as you can see I put where I got it and what page to see it on. Its the third line down you can't miss it. The Sheriff willing broke these laws to show that he didn't care about anything but winning the peoples hearts and hoping to keep being Sheriff. I have studied Criminal Justice and I know that this is against the law to give out information like he did. Unless and I have not looked at the laws for this time but unless back then the laws weren't like they are now; which in that case means he wouldn't have broken anything. But I know that the laws today state that at a crime scene, the Sheriff can't knowingly give out information like he has done. Also if anyone can help me out; in the book it calls Tony West by two names: Samuel Tony West and Tony Wells West, does anyone know which one he really went by? Reason I asked is just for me nothing else I promise. And also I stated a while back that both Charles and Joey's ashes were scattered around the foundation, but in the book it states that only Joey's were put there. The newspaper states other wise so if anyone knows the truth on that part that would help also. The one that scattered the ashes was a owner of the funeral home that both men were sent to and he claims he scattered both of their ashes up there but the book states that Charles's ashes went back to Chicago.

  67. okay no i didn't say they were devil worshipers I just said that yes they did visit the church of satin that is all i said. I still stand by my facts that they weren't into worshiping the devil. reason i can say this is because i have talked to a lot of people that knew them very well and have been around them for awhile before that shit happened. The main reason and this is coming from Charles himself who told a source of mine that is in the book and in the newspaper stated that "Charles told him that he had all of that stuff in his house and the sign out front about " Beware of the Thing" because he hoped it would keep people away from them and leave them alone". He didn't want anyone bothering them and the reason the house was built up there in the first place is because they looked at the mtn and another place in CL. They picked that spot because of the fact that in case of a nuke attack that is the only place you would survive it even the house was built a certain way to reflect the blast from a nuke. Of course you don't believe that but that is what Charles told a lot of people around this area when asked about his house and the things he had hell some of the stuff they had in that place was giving to him as a fair well gift. They looked at this mtn and the one in Cl and they picked this one because of the way it looked and it got its name from all the dead trees that were there. So before you go running off at the mouth pick up a damn book or newspaper and read maybe your ass will learn a few things or hell better yet why not talk to the ones that have known them for years and then you will see what I have wrote is the truth not make believe like you think. Also I have looked for both men in the Ga department of Corrections and one of them can't be found even my mother who works for the law enforcement looked it up and he isn't in the system but one is in the Mississippi system. All I was saying I was sorry about was the fact about the Church of Satin part only. Its dumb ass simple minded people like you who called them things that they weren't because they were different and they didn't live to how you thought they should. But what gives you the fucking right to judge anyone when you could be judge for the way you chose to live? Just because you think the way you live is right and your better then anyone who is different or doesn't live like you doesn't mean you can judge them. Who says how you chose to live your life is right in the first place and who the fuck do you think you are to tell me how I should right my research? Also I have called the Summerville News Office more then once to follow up on that so called ten year report and they have told me every single time that they have no clue what the hell I'm talking about and that they wish people would stop calling them about it. So as far as I know its not a real paper but one that you( the simple minded fucks of our town) keep coming up with. So from now on stay the fuck off of my page if you don't like what it says fuck off no one cares about you or what you think

She tells me that they weren't devil worshipers they believed in other things, diaties (SP?), goddeses, satan, but due to being educated about other religions. If any of u would read up on ur religion u would realize the simalarities in ALL religions. To each their own. My aunt also says they were nice ppl and no they weren't on top of the mountain singin hems and making tea. My mother say that they did have drugs but hell who doesn't in that town. I'm from there I know. I have been to the site and have camped out as a child on the other side of the mountain I felt no evil ecxept for at night we got a little freaked out but what woods aren't scary at night? Yes they were different and to some ppl "questionable" but they did not deserve to die the way that they did. even if they were "Devil Worshipers" or "Satanist" they died a horrible death what does that say about the ones who killed them? No offense to their families but everyone is always harping on them what about the evil murderer's who did they worship? Right it doesn't matter!! I wish someone who hung out with them back then had pictures of their house and their stuff i wish i could have met them!

Odom...I know they were good men looking for a little peace. That is all...they were their own people...and very talented to be able to build their home with their own two hands...it was built out of love and that's what people should focus on. 77. a couple of years ago i became obsessed with corpse wood after hearing about it from some friends that had been there back in the 90s.. i asked everyone i knew that was around the area back then and most people had never heard of it.. the info that i did get was basically that there was a lot of satanic activity at the site after the fact.. everything from people walking up on gutted dogs on the foundation surrounded by lit candles.. to a hearse chasing my friend down the mountain.. i have heard that the floor mats that are around the pond were placed there by the people coming to the satanic rituals that happened there.. i have heard they were trying to start a "gateway" to hell in the south.. that they were trying to start the church of satan here in the east coast.. i think if thats true they were either really dumb (which they werent) or really courageous.. i think the "satanic" activity came from the stories that have been told about the place and local youth that dont understand what satanism is truly about..

from all the things that i have gathered and from having a pretty good understanding of people and the culture of the south..
this is what i think happened..
this is just my opinion like it or not this is what I think happened in those woods..

  78. scudder from what i understand was a professor or a chemist i have heard that he had some dealings with LSD and i think that is true.. lsd even after the 60s was still being researched.. he had a live in "butler" that was his lover.. from what i understand the house in the city they lived in was falling apart and they wanted to retreat to the country to get back to nature.. live off the land and do things the way they wanted.. to be left alone.. they sold the house and they purchased land where at the time they thought they could do so with out people in their business.. (after living in la atlanta and spending time in every major city in this country then finally moving back to chattanooga i understand trust me).. from what i understand they the lived in a camper for a few years while they build their home using generators for heat in the winter.. i have been told that the rounded shape of the house came from a lack of understanding of masonry work.. the wet well out back contained the floor mats and other material as a way to keep water from draining so fast.. the dead horse road and corpsewood manor names came from a want to be left alone.. at the time and still now homosexuality is frowned upon in rural areas of the country.. you have to remember there was no logo channel or people of the same sex trying to get married.. what better way to be left alone than to make people think you are a "scary devil worshiper".. these are also names found in scooby doo cartoons if you do your research properly.. creepy huh?.. they planted gardens and fruit trees that can still be found there today.. from what i understand above the chicken coup was a room they dubbed "the pink room" that contained a bed with pink sheets, pornographic material and drug paraphernalia.. (thats bongs blotter papper and other "drug" related items for those of you that have never made it out of fort oglethorpe).. i also think this may be where the "electric wine" came into play.. if you dont know what that is google it.. after a while some of the local people became friends with the two men.. and some of the local youth.. as everyone knows youth are sometimes curious about things they are not exposed to in some of the uncultured areas of the world.. i think the boys spent time with the men doing drugs and experimenting in other ways.. i personally do not think in any way they were forced to do any of these things against their will.. but i could be wrong.. i do however have friends both male and female that are homosexual and "satanists" and never have i even for a second thought anyone that truly understands either of those things would or could push those beliefs or "convictions" if you will, on anyone... why would you move to the buckle of the bible belt far away from anyone that might even understand being gay in those days to a place where you know you arent welcome and start trying to "convert" people.. in short, i think the boys did things they were ashamed of and after thought of the repercussions of their actions in such a small town had finally set in.. they made a decision to kill the men so no one would ever have to know the choices they had made.. i think they knew there was no money and i think they made the "scene" look as though it were a robbery to cover their true motives.. if they were ever caught they would look more like bad ass, shit kicker, local heroes doing what no one else would.. than two youth that had wondered outside of their comfort zone and experimented with the same sex or drugs that were and still are thought to "expand your mind".. this is just my opinion once again.. i have also heard that the local people did think they had money.. because they didnt work and lived the way they wanted.. so it could honestly have just been a robbery by two selfish young men trying to get ahead in this world the wrong way..

  79. either way i think what this all comes down to is people really should not be so closed minded and try to see some things from a different light.. just because someone looks different from you or has a different set of beliefs or morals that they hold themselves to doenst mean they are bad people and it doesnt mean you have the right to say they are wrong and that you are right.. because in the end no matter what anyone says NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THIS LIFE!.. i personally do believe in a god loosely based on the christian god because of the way i was raised, from the bible and from the experiences that i have had in my life.. but the god i trust and believe in does NOT have a closed mind or heart to ANYONE! no matter where they are in their life.. or with whom or how they choose to live that life..
if we get anything from what happened that awful afternoon it should be that we need to learn not to be so selfish and to try to treat other people the way we would want to be treated..

  83. As a paranormal investigator, I've been to many unusual sites. Corpsewood has been on my "go to" list for years. My team is truly interested in the property and the supposed hauntings. As far as the curch of Satan, anyone with an IQ above 60 and the ability to read will know that in La Vey's book "the Satanic Bible" he says nothing about Devil worship, he talks about being more atuned to one's self and to nature, more of a Wiccan philosophy, he does discuss rituals, however all religions have rituals( Baptism, communion, etc). We live in a society that frowns upon being different, Hell even gays have had issues in all parts of the country, it only shows how closed minded and backward we really are as a society. I applaud your efforts and feel that you are on the right track, you just need to streamline the facts and seperate out the fiction. Satan worship is not Devil worship...once again READ "The Satanic Bible" and learn from it( all you pro-christian haters and idiots who can't spell so you type in text language( what's wrong? Do words with more than four letters stump you)?

This is a very interesting story. I have tried to go up there a couple times and was unable to find it. I've read all the different stories. I'd love to know the truth but I suppose only the 5 people that were there that night will ever know what happened.

I would love to have a copy of the book and see the video someone mentioned.

To cowboy if you still come by I found both murderers on GA DCOR I can send you the links if you are still in the same place. It is public information but I would hate to be accused of trying to put them out there for retribution or something.

I'd be interested in seeing any pictures you have or other information about the place the men that isn't readily available to the public.

I live in Polk Co. Interesting side note. One of the men was actually convicted here because the trial had to be moved from Chattooga.

Anyway. Thanks for doing the research and trying to get as much of the truth out as you can and thanks to the other commenters for the information they have provided as well.

Maybe 2012 will be the year I actually locate Corpsewood :)

So today, I set out on the mission to find the "Murder at Corpsewood Manor". I did find it $95. I was told it was "highly collectable" due to the authors signature. It is like a magazine. I can not wait to dig in..This story is very intriguing and would make for a great movie with the many turns and twists I have read so far. I can't imagine being the person the Dr was coming from Chicago to small town USA for a peaceful life only to end up in this tragic way. It is sad we only hear of the "dark-side" ANY person has and never the "positive". Nobody deserves to die the way they did. No one

  85. I used to live right down the road from there, in subligna a couple of years ago. I used to ride up there all the time on my f uor wheeler. I find it cool that people are still interested in all of this. I have to say nothing "weird" ever happened while I was up there. I didn't even know what happened up there until my mom asked if I had been to d.w. Mountain.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Reading everone's posts - I am drawn back to this event. Hearing about it on the radio on my drive to my parents house in Subligna, getting onto the property with the help of a relative, then a Chattooga County Deputy. Adhering to his warning not to touch the plants that lined the driveway because they were Hemloch and poisonous. We weren't just curious - this happened in our backyard where generations of my family have farmed and still live today.
All the valuables had been removed from the castle, the stain glass art taken out and metal panels soughtered into place. The bath house still had their soap in the dishes and dead mice on the floor and looking through the glass block into the office, I saw the carpet rolled over to expose a dark stain underneath which I was told by my relative who was a first responder that night, was blood. I received my tour of the buried refigerator filled with canned goods and pornagraphic magazines for gay men. The place was quiet, almost serene. The finishing touches had almost been completed for the large stone lined swimming pond that would be spring fed. But there was something else there too. An uneasy feeling, like when the hair on the back of your neck stands up. Remember a murder occurred on this rain wet ground.

Strange nothing much is said about the pink room that was above the chicken coop. I climbed up there with my relative and pink fabric had been attached to the walls and ceiling. There were cushions all around the room that I could stand up in with about two feet of head room. Scattered all over the floors were hundreds of polaroid pictures of boys and teenage men - all nude - all in some state of arousal - hundreds. Some looked to be younger than my brothers whom the youngest was 12, but all looked half asleep or drugged or drunk.

Nice people? I question your definition. Drugs, satanic art (no other diety found there) and pornagraphic photos of children. Sorry for disagreeing with your assumptions - but I am sure there are still grown men who are living with what happened to them in that pink room.

I took pictures of this place while I was there. When they were developed, every picture had an anomally at the bottom edge of every picture, red and different on each pic, that have been identified by those who have seen them as flames from a fire.

As the old saying goes "I was there!" And when we all got home we took our shoes off and threw them all into the garbage, not wanting even the mud sticking to our shoes from that place.

    1. Your story doesn't add up. If there was another "pink room" filled with child porn, the investigators would have found and confiscated it long before you got there. Moreover, your "anomalies," being red and always in the same place in all the photos, sound like your finger was in the way of the lens. It amazes me how many people close to this case, are still demonizing these two men (victims, mind you) to this day, 30 years later!

    2. this is the pink room described to me almost verbatim 30+yrs ago by many of my male friends who visited them with exception of the carpet/rug being of mink. I grew up close to here and knew many who frequented the place.

  91. OK I live in Lafayette been here my whole life. Only a few minutes away from Trion or Taylor's ridge if you prefer. The men and their dogs were murdered brutally point blank period. They were shot to death for money that wasn't there. Their valuables were stolen and their beautiful home destroyed. They were different. Wiccan. But they were nice men. They kept to themselves and did nothing to bother anyone. They built their home by hand brick by brick. I have been there I have took rocks from there. As I walked on the ground I felt sadness and unrest there. The spirits of the 2 men are still there I'm sure of it and they haunt those who try to destroy what's left of their home. If I were murdered like that my spirit would be there and wouldn't stop till I was put to rest. The men weren't evil. They were good people who kept to their self. Maybe their religion was different maybe they were satanist. But learn wat they religion of satanism is, basically its eye for an eye tooth for a tooth. So you tell me how they were evil. Anton La vey and Allister Crowley, give me your proof then I'll believe you. But you will not change my opinion that the men were murdered horfically and that their soul will stay their until they are put to rest. If you go up there with an intent of wrong doing you will feel bad spirits if you go up there with grief in your heart you will feel sorrow. Don't believe me then do it. I went there with grief and felt nothing but sadness but I DID not feel evil around me.

I've always been fascinated by the story but feel like there are so many rumors that it's hard to really know a lot of what really happened. It adds to the mystery. We've created our own local mythology about it. Personally I've always thought the guys were Wiccan and misunderstood. Could they have been associated with The Church of Satan? Sure.

Almost everyone around here has a story about it or knows someone, or had a weird experience. It amazes me that there hasn't been more effort by someone to make an in-depth documentary. This case is ripe with details that Hollywood just doesn't make up. I feel for the families of the victims, families of the killers, and everyone else who was touched by this tragedy. All the crazy theories can't make it any easier. What keeps us all curious is all that isn't known and the possibilities for what those details may hold.

  101. True story: I visited corpse wood Manor every Saturday for over a year. one Saturday I came across a very beautiful rose bush. the next day I came back to dig it up. on the way up the mountain I saw a dead dog in the road. it had flies swarming around it it was dead. when I got to corpsewood I found The Rose was gone. it hadn't been dug it just disappear. on my way back down the mountain I tried to straddle the dead dog. just as I got to it it raised its head up. there were 3 other people in the car who were certain this dog was dead. we pulled over about a quarter of a mile down the road. the dog was gone. I was already sick over the rosebush disappearing. Then to have a dead dog raised up in the middle of the road and then disappear really made my day. I know it doesn't sound like much but it messes with me to this day. if you visit corpsewood don't take anything with you. believe you me the place is cursed.

  103. My mother was part of the Civil Defense and Rescue that guarded the gate. She was pregnant with my older brother at the time. My uncle also partied up there a lot. Both of my family members knew the victims. They both say that the two men never once pushed their religion on anyone and that they were the nicest men you could ever meet. Due to them being different they were judged and looked down on by the community. I also remember as a little girl going up to the manor (I was about 6 or 7 years old). The grass still looked freshly mowed and there was beautiful flowers everywhere. We were riding horses up there at the time and none of the horses would eat the grass and when we started to leave, the horses began trotting and wouldn't slow down to a walk. I remember this well considering when the horse I was on sped up and would slow down I was getting scared I would fall off and my Dad helped calm me down. Not saying it is haunted or cursed but you could definitely feel a presence up there, not evil but just there.

  109. Hi I know you made this nearly ten years ago and have since probably lost interest in this topic but I just stumbled upon this today, let me introduce myself my name is Zack I am a great nephew of Avery one of the men accused of this crime I don't know if you even still use this site or if you have lost interest in the topic but since the site is still up I'm guessing you still use it anyway I just want to offer any information you might be interested in, most of my family has chosen to forget or to not speak about it but my great uncle was supposed to be released from prison years ago but we have all excepted that he may never get out he is currently dying for aids and all my great grandmother wants is to one day see him set free before she passes but we're all very doubtful that will happen, anyway if you would like any information about this I would be happy to offer as much as I know just email me at zinthose3302091@gmail.com
